Landscaping with railroad ties has become quite popular over the years. They are inexpensive and help the environment by recycling; in addition, they are durable and have a great natural look. Some of the downfalls can include: smelling like tar as the temperature heats up (the wood has been treated with Creosote; which is made from coal tar), they can be a place for critters to hide (such as snakes and chipmunks) and railroad ties are very heavy (not a 1 person job.)
There are many online "how to build steps" or other landscaping ideas with railroads ties; however, other than being labor intensive and making sure your ground is level - this is an easy and inexpensive way to get a great look!

Birdhouses give any outdoor space a warm feeling and a sense of joy when you wake up and hear birds happily chirping in the morning.
Make sure to keep the bird house in an area where raccoons or squirrels cannot easy obtain access to it. Hanging the bird house up high and several feet from the trunk of the tree will help with this.
Also, when building or purchasing your birdhouse, wood is the recommended material. Metal can overheat and possibly kill your birds.

Orioles love jelly; particularly grape jelly (or orange marmalade.) Do not use sugar free jelly, as they orioles get their nutrition from the sugar; on the other hand, high fructose sugar will just make them fat (like us), so natural is best. Simply, buy a jar of jelly - get an old wire hanger and bend one end of the hanger around the jar. Use the other end of the hanger to hang somewhere in your yard where you will have visual access to watch these beautiful birds.
It is suggested to clean the jar and replace the jelly every few days. You can use the same jar by placing rocks or a safe filler on the bottom of the jar; and then putting smaller amounts of jelly towards the top of the jar where the oriole will be able to bend over and eat the jelly comfortably.
